Dyaisha Fair Named Third Team All-American by the Associated Press

3/20/2024 11:57:00 AM | Women's Basketball

Dyaisha Fair is the second player in program history to be named to an All-America Team by the Associated Press (AP). On Wednesday, Fair was named a Third Team All-American by the AP, joining Alexis Peterson (Second Team, 2016-17) in the Orange record books. Additionally, three Orange alums, Nicole Michael (2009-10), Kayla Alexander (2012-13), and Tiana Mangakahia (2018-19) were honorable mention during their respective careers. Fair is the seventh player in program history to earn all-America recognition.

Fair was named Third Team All-American by the Associated Press, marking the third publication to recognize her with the honor. On Tuesday, she was tabbed Third Team All-America by both The Sporting News and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).

The 5-foot-5 guard is averaging 22.0 points per game this season on 39.2 percent shooting. She currently ranks fifth on the NCAA Division I All-Time Scoring List for women's basketball, climbing the list as the season has played out. She currently sits 42 points behind Jackie Stiles (4th) entering the NCAA Tournament. Fair is 10th in the nation in scoring average and third in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while leading the ACC in three pointers with 107 makes.

Fair is an All-ACC First Team selection for the second year in a row. Earlier this season, she became the fastest player in program history to score 1,000 points at Syracuse (50 games).

The Orange have put together the best seasons in program history, on the back of Fair. Syracuse tied a program record for regular season wins (23) and conference wins (13). The Associated Press has ranked Syracuse in the top-25 each week this season since Week 9, earning No. 22 in the most recent poll (Week 20).

Fair has led SU to its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2021. The Orange face the winner of First Four matchup 11-seed Arizona vs. 11-seed Auburn at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn. Saturday will mark Fair's second NCAA Tournament appearance, first appearing with Buffalo in 2022.
