'Cuse Moves to Three in Polls

No. 3 Syracuse Takes on No. 1 Notre Dame Saturday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Entering the second week of ACC play, the Syracuse University men's lacrosse team moved up in both major polls this week, snagging the number three spot in each.

Syracuse (9-2, 1-0 ACC) knocked off No. 3/4 Duke 10-4 at the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday before surging past Hobart 13-7 on Saturday.

The Orange garnered 384 points in the USILA Coaches Poll, including one first place vote, to snare the number three spot. It's an all-ACC top three this week, with Saturday's foe, Notre Dame, returning to number one with 432 points and 16 first-place votes. Virginia was second with 419 points and four of the five remaining first-place selections. Penn State was fourth with 361 points, followed by Duke at number five with 354 points and the remaining top vote.

This mark's the first time since the 2021 preseason poll that Syracuse was ranked third in the USILA Coaches Poll. It is the first time the Orange have been ranked third during the season since February 24, 2020.

The Inside Lacrosse Media Poll top five was the same: No. 1 Notre Dame earning 489 points with 17 first-place votes, Virginia in at number two with 481 points and the outstanding first-place votes. Syracuse was third with 434 points, followed by Penn State (424) and Duke (383).

A majority of the 2024 Syracuse opponents remaining in the USILA Coaches Poll this week: No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 2 Virginia, No. 5 Duke, No. 6 Army West Point, No. 7 Cornell, No. 11 Johns Hopkins, No. 12 Maryland, No. 17 Colgate, with High Point, North Carolina, Delaware, and Utah all receiving votes.

Opponents in the Media Poll this week include: No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 2 Virginia, No. 5 Duke, No. 6 Army West Point, No. 7 Cornell, No. 8 Johns Hopkins, No. 12 Maryland, No. 18 Colgate, with North Carolina, High Point, and Delaware all receiving votes.

Syracuse elevated to number five in the USA Lacrosse Division I Top 20 this week, up four spots from the nine hole last week.

No. 3/3 Syracuse heads for the midwest this weekend to take on No. 1 Notre Dame (5-1, 0-0 ACC). Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Arlotta Stadium. Saturday's game will be carried on ACC Network.
