The Syracuse rowing second varsity eight is the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week after sweeping its races at the ACC/Big 10/Ivy Duals on Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J. The 12th ranked Orange won six of 11 races against five teams in the top 20, including #8 Penn, #13 Indiana, #14 Rutgers and #19 Radcliffe in the first session and #11 Ohio State in the second session.
"Every boat had new faces in it, including the 2V8 which had just one returner from the 2023 boat that raced at the NCAAs," said head coach Luke McGee after the races. "That crew is a young group and they showed a lot of composure and good maturity in both races today. We have good depth on the team this year."
Junior April Serrano coxswained the boat that included stroke Olivia Bachert, Kaitlyn Dennis, Aicha Abdelaziz, Lena Radke, Lauren Coop, Grace Loveridge, Charlotte Ebel and bow Elizabeth Vogt. The 2V8 (6:57.3) beat Penn was second (7:01.6), followed by Radcliffe (7:03.5) and Indiana (7:08.3). Against Ohio State, the Orange finished the race in 7:07.5, four seconds ahead of the Buckeyes (7:11.9).
Syracuse will race #5 Yale and Cornell on Saturday, April 6 on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
