Orange Race Top-20 Teams at LWI

Five top-20 teams highlighted the first day of racing at the Lake Wheeler Invitational in Raleigh, NC on Friday. The field included five top-20 teams and four others receiving votes. The three top-ranked teams in the field, #5 Tennessee, #10 Syracuse and #11 Penn, competed against each other in every race on the first day of the regatta, with the Volunteers posting 10 wins with the Orange in second in eight races, and Penn taking the second spot in the other two.
 
The field also included #16 Duke, #18 Washington State, along with teams receiving votes in the national poll in Central Florida, Alabama, Miami and Iowa. The remaining teams were Boston College, Boston University, Clemson, Georgetown, Kansas, Louisville, Navy, Tulsa and North Carolina.
 
In the morning session, the varsity eight finished third, behind Tennessee and Penn, and ahead of Washington State, BU and Georgetown. The crew included coxswain Caileigh Grimes, stroke Emmie Frederico, Ellie-Kate Hutchinson, Alena Criss, Zoe Acosta, Kamile Kralikaite, India Aikens, Aphrodite Gioulekas and bow Izabela Krakic. The Orange closed the day with a second-place finish behind Tennessee in the afternoon session. The lineup changed to include Olivia Bachert in the bow of the varsity eight and Izabela Krakic in the six-seat of the second varsity eight.
 
The second varsity eight recorded two second place finishes, coming in behind Tennessee and ahead of the rest of the field in both races. Coxswain April Serrano guided the crew that included stroke Elizabeth Vogt, Kaitlyn Dennis, Olivia Bachert, Lena Radke, Alice McNeill, Charlotte Ebel, Grace Loveridge and bow Mae Sweeney, in the first race. For the afternoon race Krakic rowed six-seat in place of Bachert.
 
The varsity four took third in the morning race, behind Tennessee and Penn, and finished second behind Tennessee in the afternoon session. The varsity four featured coxswain Isabelle DeSantis, stroke Nora Radke, Haley Uliasz, Aicha Abdelaziz and bow Lea Dahn in the first race. The lineup shifted for the second session to include DeSantis, Sarah Haney, Uliasz, N. Radke and Dahn.  
 
In the second varsity four, coxswain Chloe Van de Meulebroecke guided the boat that featured stroke Sarah Haney, Kelsey Boswell, Minaya Bishop and bow Lauren Coop to a second-place finish in the first race. A lineup change for the second race also produced a second-place finish. The crew included Van de Meulebroecke, Bishop, Boswell, Abdelaziz and Coop.
 
The third varsity eight, which included coxswain Dana Shearer, stroke Annabelle McCulloch, Maddi Segarnick, Maddy Gisby, Emma Cloud, Taylor Lewandowski, Kelly Brown, Cassandra Dasco and bow Haley Minnick, crossed the finish line behind Tennessee in both races. In the morning race, Syracuse finished behind Tennessee and ahead of Penn and Georgetown. In its second race the 3V8 also finished second behind Tennessee,
 
The invitational will conclude on Saturday morning with five races beginning at 9 am. races will be streamed on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX).
